WELCOME TO DEPARTMENT OF TENNESSEE VFW

Department of Tennessee, Veterans of Foreign Wars

Commander's Corner

Commander Eric Spurbeck

First and foremost, THANK YOU for choosing me as your new State Commander for the great state of Tennessee!!

As we move into this new year, we will have a lot of fun cause, according to the Book of Bubba, "if you can’t have fun along the way, then it ain’t worth the ride.” This year will be all about WE; I’m doing it because this isn’t a me or an I; this year is a WE.  Together, we will do anything we put our heads and energy to.

The Auxiliary Department President Gail O’Neil and I are dedicated to bringing the Posts and the Auxiliary back together.  If we all can stop the bickering and finger-pointing and take all that energy, we can do more for veterans, their families, and our communities. We know we can get along as we have for years; we just lost our understanding of the big picture—that "big picture,” veterans, families, and communities.

Together, we can make a difference in Tennessee and show the nation that we can co-exist and make great things happen.

Remember that we are all in this together and can do more as a group than as just one entity.

I look forward to having an AWESOME year and leading Tennessee to good things.

  Mission First, Veterans Always

IN-COUNTRY

A satirical reflection by Author/Artist Phil Fehrenbacher

Phil enlisted in the Army in 1965 where you served for years in Vietnam.  He became a graphic designer and has worked for the state of Oregon for 26 years.  He retired in 2003 and started the Cartoon "In-Country".  The cartoons reflect his experiences during his tour of duty in South Vietnam.

There is a new cartoon everyday.
